Supermarine Walrus and Stranraer (Yellow Series) Summary:By James Kightly, Roger Walsgrove
Summary: Well done monograph of two obscure types. Rating: 5 Two Mushroom Model Publication editors team up to deliver this book detailing two Supermarine flying boats, the single engined Walrus and the twin engined Stranraer (I have no idea how that last is pronounced). The text is limited to a brief development history of the two types with brief comments on other Supermarine flying boats and a detailed summary detailing the differences between the various marks of Walrus. Very brief remarks about the operations of both types. The meat of the book are the lovely close up color photographs of museum examples followed by 23 pages of very well done color profiles. The line drawings which are also well done are confined to a foldout sheet. Since in all likelihood one will be buying this book second hand make sure the foldout is included. The authors inject a few nice touches of humor: "It looked like the result of a night of passion between a late Griffon-engine Spitfire and the Walrus...". In conclusion this is an outstanding modeling reference and the general enthusiast should be pleased as well.
