Physics for Scientists and Engineers, Fifth Edition (extended version)
Physics for Scientists and Engineers, Fifth Edition (extended version) Summary:
New extended edition of the classic text, now more than ever tailored to meet the needs of the struggling student. I bought this for self-study to fill in the gaps I missed when taking Engineering Physics 1+2. For much of the material, I am very happy, and this book tells me what I wanted to know. But for other parts, it is too superficial. For example, this book shows me the Hagen-Poiseuille equation, but doesn't give you a derivation or a background into why. Same thing with Snell's Law. I can find the equations anywhere. From a textbook, I want the full explanation, in a well written and organized manner. Summary: This book is not for everyone Rating: 1This book I'm sure is good for some people but I know that most of my physics class including me dislike this book quite a bit. The concepts aren't explained very well and the chapters are very choppy. It is a difficult read, but I'm sure it's great for other people. Summary: Frustrating is the key word. Rating: 1This book is by far the worst textbook I have ever read. The writing was terrible with many errors and the subscripts and variable were not explained sufficiently. The pacing was also awful, the practice problems often enough had nothing to do with the material preceding it. There are no questions at the end of each section like traditional textbooks instead there are about 100 or so problems at the end of the chapter that held almost no resemblance to the example problems given during the chapter. Terrible book. Summary: This text has made my semester hell! Rating: 1The other reviews sum it all very nicely, this is a terrible physics text. Notice how heavily the number of one and two star reviews outweigh 3,4, and 5 star reviews. If you are a teacher, instructor, or professor, and use this text, you are a bad person. I just can't even express in words how bad everything is done. 80% of the time spent in this text is trying to figure out what went on in an EXAMPLE'S intermediate step. Summary: Mistakes in 1st and 2nd Printings Rating: 3Just fyi, we are using this text in my college physics class and there are numerous errors in the first and second printings (i.e. in the problems, some of the "known" information is wrong). These problems do not appear to be in the third printing, however. So if you want a book that has workable problems with answers that make sense, make sure that your's is the 3rd printing. CRC | 1999 | ISBN: 0849386888 | 224 pages | PDF | 3,5 MB Although dynamical mechanical analysis or spectroscopy has left the domain of the rheologist and has become a prevalent tool in the analytical laboratory, it is still common to hear, "What is DMA, and what will it tell me?" or "I think I could use a DMA, but I cannot justify its cost." Previously, the novice in the field had to sort through texts on thermal analysis, rheology, and materials science just to find basic information - until now. about this ebook General Relativity and John Archibald Wheeler (Astrophysics and Space Science Library)
