Volume 12 is devoted entirely to the subject of electrophilic substitution at a
saturated carbon atom, with particular reference to kinetic studies involving metal
alkyls as substrates. In Chapter 2 the generation of carbanions is discussed generally,
and in Chapter 3 possible mechanisms of the electrophilic substitution at
saturated carbon are considered. Chapters 5-10 are arranged on the basis of
reaction type; substitution reactions, mercury for mercury exchanges, other metal
for metal exchanges and acidolysis and halogenolysis of organometallic compounds.
Finally in Chapter 11 observations on structural, salt and solvent effects are correlated.
