On assignment in the Philippines, archaeologist Annja Creed meets with a contact to verify some information. Easy enough. But when the man doesn't turn out to be whom he said he was, Annja finds herself handcuffed, blindfolded and kidnapped. And to make matters worse, she's a prisoner of the dreaded Abu Sayyaf, a notorious terrorist group.

Desperate to escape, Annja is able to flee after slaying one of her captors. But she soon gets lost in the hostile jungle, which is rumored to be haunted by the spirits of Moro warriors who fought off conquistadors with their blades. As she tries to stay a step ahead of the terrorists and not-so-dead spirits with a taste for human flesh, Annja's not sure she'll leave the jungle alive….

I've read all the books in the Rogue Angel series thus far and I have to say this is one of my favorites. Actually, in my opinion, this is the best book since Serpent's Kiss.
Annja is back in character and is much more human than in previous books, depending on a marine for survival in the jungle for example.
The book keeps you interested until the end, the whole crocodile thing was ridiculous, but after that incident the book picks up again and has a great plot twist at the end that really surprised me.
Another issue is the authors lack of knowledge about the US marine corps, I served 5 years in the corps and their was definitely some flaws with the sniper...however i don't take anything away from the book since it is fiction and the general reader wouldn't be able to pick up on the flaws.
Overall this is worth reading as a fan of the series or as a stand alone.

To be honest, the last few Rogue Angel books have been uneven and have fallen victim to the dreaded "forumla." In particular, Annja doesn't really search for anything. The stories basically run her around, get shot at (frequently) and is handed artifacts on a platter. Sacrifice, however, was a refreshing break. The story was truly engaging and was a truly entertaining read from start to finish. In the story, Annja doesn't search for anything other than an escape after being mistakenly kidnapped by a terrorist cell. A well-written deep cover U.S. marine helps to pull the story along. I was ready to give up on the series. Sacrifice will keep me in the game for a little longer.

This book was a great page turner. I couldn't wait to see what else would happen.

The past couple of books have Annja suffering a lot of grief with no payoff, this time she gets justice and a really competent guy. But still this book takes us for a ride full of drama, drama, drama.

Is the same author still writing this series? I read something about another writer assisting with an earlier book...
I just couldn't enjoy this book and it took me several days of picking up and putting down to finish instead of all at once like usual. The absence of Garin was a factor,but mainly it was the plot which never left the jungle and was already in progress at the start of the book. There was no artifact or mystery for Anja to unravel and the idea of a crazy tribe in the middle of nowhere was done in another story already...
Another noticable difference, one I really liked, was Anja showing more of a human side as opposed to a robot who is never fazed by anything. She asks girly questions,she complains about the intense heat, sleeping conditions, and overall is more relateable and likeable.
