Wolfsbane and Mistletoe Summary:By Charlaine Harris, Toni L. P. Kelner
The editors of Many Bloody Returns deliver the perfect howl-iday gift, with new tales from Patricia Briggs, Carrie Vaughn, and many more. New York Times bestselling authors Charlaine Harris, Patricia Briggs, Keri Arthur, and Carrie Vaughn—along with eleven other masters of the genre—offer all-new stories on werewolves and the holidays, a fresh variation on the concept that worked so well with birthdays and vampires in Many Bloody Returns. The holidays can bring out the beast in anyone. They are particularly hard for lycanthropes. Charlaine Harris and Toni L. P. Kelner have harvested the scariest, funniest and saddest werewolf tales by an outstanding pack of authors, best read by the light of a full moon with a silver bullet close at hand. Whether wolfing down a holiday feast (use your imagination) or craving some hair of the dog on New Year’s morning, the werewolves in these frighteningly original stories will surprise, delight, amuse, and scare the pants off readers who love a little wolfsbane with their mistletoe. Summary: Expect the unexpected Rating: 5 I've read a few paranormal short story collections and have mostly been disappointed. The stories tend to be somewhat over-sexed and not heavy on the plot line. Wolfsbane and Mistletoe, however, was an excellent read; the stories were well written, almost all of them were enjoyable, and there were some excellent surprises along the way. Highly recommended. Summary: Fresh Twist on Holiday talesRating: 5 Fun, fun, fun! I am so sick of the trite Christmas stories that get trotted out year after year. This collection is a wonderful breath of fresh air. I personally would have preferred a mix of supernatural characters like they had in "Many Bloody Returns" but even with an almost exclusively werewolf cast it is still a lot of fun. Summary: Good ReadRating: 4 If you like the Sookie Stakehouse books you will like this one with a story from Charlaine Harris Summary: Great!Rating: 4 I love reading Anthology's when I get a little tired of reading novels. I only originally bought this book though for the Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse entry while waiting for book 10. I wasn't expecting much from the rest of the stories cause I wasn't familiar with some of the other authors in the book. I was pleasantly surprised I loved most of the short stories in the book. I loved SA by J.A Konrath! This short story had be hooked from the first paragraph and had me laughing and laughing throughout. I can't wait to read some of his other books. Gift Wrap - Charlaine Harris was also good too. I loved the little stunt her Grandfather pulled. It was a really cute story. Fresh Meat - Alan Gordon was a alright story. The writing was a tad strange to me and it felt a bit all over the place with the random excerpts from his previous relationship, but I liked the story well enough. Keeping Watch Over His Flock - Toni L. P. Kelner was good. I really liked it, it was a really heartfelt story. Milk and Cookies - Rob Thurman Wow! Just when you think you know whats going to happen I got thrown for a loop. This was a good story and it was entertaining. II Est Ne - Carrie Vaughn I liked this story well enough. It was a bit slow, but kept me interested. Made me want to start reading her Kitty series. Summary: Good reading for the priceRating: 3 "Wolfsbane and Mistletoe" gives a good bang for your buck, especially at the Amazon price. If you are a big fan of Urban Fantasy or an unpublished writer, it's worth buying. More than half of the stories are enjoyable, and all can help beginning writers by showing what works and what doesn't. I bought it for the Patti Briggs and Karen Chance stories, but knew I'd like at least a few of the others and was not dissapointed; in fact, I got more than expected. I'd have given it a 3 1/2 stars; but Amazon doesn't do half stars. Please select one mirror to download
