The Dragons of Ordinary Farm Summary:By Tad Williams, Deborah Beale
Tyler and Lucinda have to spend summer vacation with their ancient uncle Gideon, a farmer. They think they're in for six weeks of cows, sheep, horses, and pigs. But when they arrive in deserted Standard Valley, California, they discover that Ordinary Farm is, well, no ordinary farm. The bellowing in the barn comes not from a cow but from a dragon. The thundering herd in the valley? Unicorns. Uncle Gideon's sprawling farmhouse never looks the same twice. Plus, there's a flying monkey, a demon squirrel, and a barnload of unlikely farmhands with strange accents and even stranger powers. At first, the whole place seems like a crazy adventure. But when darker secrets begin to surface and Uncle Gideon and his fabulous creatures are threatened, Lucinda and Tyler have to pull together to take action. Will two ordinary kids be able to save the dragons, the farm—and themselves? Expert storytellers Tad Williams and Deborah Beale take readers on an extraordinary adventure in their first book about Ordinary Farm. Summary: Awesome!! Rating: 5 A great book for young and old alike. It felt a bit like Narnia meets Harry Potter, but in a completely original and refreshing way. Loved every minute of it. Summary: An fantastic story that will capture the imagination!!Rating: 5 I have to first confess that I am an avid fan of Tad Williams work. I also enjoyed the Harry Potter books and miss the annual trek to buy a copy at midnight. So when I saw that The Dragons of Ordinary Farm, a book suitable for young adults and children was going to be released I was quite excited- maybe it would be the start of another immersive series of books?
Dragons of Ordinary Farm is written by the husband and wife team of Tad Williams and Deborah Beale. The story is very well written and immersive. It reminded me a little of when I read ET and also of the magical potential of Harry Potter- I can easily see this being adapted for the cinema!
The story builds up nicely- and made me wander at all the possible future stories that could develop. Having finished, I now can't wait for the next book to be written (A Witch of Ordinary Farm).
I'm now going to be reading Dragons to my children- I'm sure they'll enjoy it as much as I did!
A very enjoyable read- with the promise of more to come!
Rating: 5 A joy to read. It was a lovely children's book to cleanse the palate after reading heavy, dreary adult stuff. Everyone needs a happy ending every once in a while and the resolution to the dragon problem made this old dragon dreamer very happy. Summary: Better than Turkish Delight!Rating: 5 This is by far, the best book I've read this summer! It was intense, engaging and as good a read for adults as children. I tasted every word like savoring a creme brulee', it was THAT GOOD! Summary: A story for all ages!Rating: 5 Tad Williams and Deborah Beale have created a young adult novel that transcends all ages - much like Clive Barker's Abarat series. What starts off as what you believe is going to be yet another typical children's fantasy adventure (with all your standard magical beasts making their appearance) quickly turns into a fantasy novel of high adventure, daring plot twists, and even a tug or two at your heart! I would highly recommend this novel - to kids of all ages! Please select one mirror to download
