Summary: What about Blob?
Rating: 5

Blob's Odd Jobs by B. Patrick has great fun with both rhyming and nonsense words. Blob feels under appreciated at the city fire hydrant cleaner. He tries his hand at several other jobs only to realize that the city needs him to keep its fire hydrants clean. Attilio Torre's illustrations are bright and humorous. Karen Woodworth Roman, Reference Librarian

Summary: B. Patrick tells Blob's story with warmth, charm, and a dash of humor. Highly recommended.
Rating: 5

Blob's Odd Jobs is a truly creative picturebook. Presenting a stylized, colorful world almost like our own but not quite, Blob's Odd Jobs follows Blob Robertson, an ordinary green blob who feels underappreciated in his job as a fire hydrant cleaner - every time he cleans a fire hydrant, one of the blogs (creatures that look oddly like dogs) would just dirty it again. So he tries new jobs as a cloud watcher, an ink pen refiller, and a sock inside-out turner. But nothing seems to work out, until at last Blob learns that he really was and is needed in his old job after all. Italian-born illustrator Attilio Torre's extravagant artwork brings just the right cartoony quality to Blob Robertson's every-so-slightly surreal world, while author B. Patrick tells Blob's story with warmth, charm, and a dash of humor. Highly recommended.

Summary: Fun, fun read
Rating: 5

Blob Robertson is a meticulous, but woefully underappreciated, fire hydrant cleaner. Giving in to his frustration, Blob tries his hand at other jobs such as ink pen refiller, cloud watcher and sock inside-out turner. In a surprising turn of events, Blob finds the appreciation he sought in a most rewarding fashion. This fun picture book takes the familiar theme of "shine wherever you are," and turns it on its head with unusual characters, interesting word combinations and a quick detour from reality. With fun illustrations and goofy names, the pre-elementary crowd will want to read it again and again. Be prepared for fits of giggles, Mom and Dad. And, let me just say, the book's dedication is priceless. Our in-house six-year-old boy critic gives it an enthusiastic two thumbs up. Armchair Interviews says: Two thumbs up! What's better than that!
