This project was funded by the European Commission Directorate-General Justice Freedom and Security INTI programme promoting the integration of third country nationals. Foreword
First Step Microfinance, which is established since 1991, and provides microfinance to
business start ups on a nationwide basis, is delighted to be working with our EU
colleagues in completing this important area of work. The focus of the INTI programme, in working on a pan European basis with a number of
fellow European countries, allows a broad view of opinion in identifying the wide and
varied challenges ahead for both national/regional countries and the immigrant
population alike. First Step Microfinance would wish to thank the Terenure Enterprise Centre (Community
Enterprise Society Ltd ) in Dublin for their assistance in producing this report and
summary. We would also wish to thank the European Microfinance Network (EMN) for
providing the platform for this project, and also thank the European Union for providing
the funding. First Step Microfinance wishes that this publication will contribute positively to the ever
increasing debate and policy formulation which lies ahead, both Nationally and at
European Union level within this developing sector.
