Summary: This Practical Guide to Meditation is a Gem Rating: 5
This book is a delight to read. No mumbo jumbo here. This meditation is easy to learn and very effective for clearing out whatever is bothering you. Let this book take you by the hand and guide you step by step in your meditation practice. This book builds on Relaxing Into Your Being, The Water Method of Taoist Meditation Series, Volume 1 and The Great Stillness: The Water Method of Taoist Meditation Series, Vol. 2 to gently teach you how to recognize and feel subtle emotional blockages and clear them out once and for all.
Rich in practical tips, from how to sit with good posture so that you are free from distraction, and how to deal with mental fog and depression, grief, and emotional pain, this book is easy to follow and understand. I have never read such a clearly written book on meditation.
Chi practices for your health, such as chi gung and tai chi, can help you meditate more easily. If you want to further your progress towards a healthier and happier life, I also recommend Bruce Frantzis' other books, such as The CHI Revolution: Harnessing the Healing Power of Your Life Force, Opening the Energy Gates of Your Body: Chi Gung for Lifelong Health [OPENING THE ENERGY GATES OF YO], and Tai Chi: Health for Life.
Summary: "Relax into your heart or being" Rating: 4
I've read a number of books on meditation, but The Tao of Letting Go brings an aspect of this ancient practice to light that was previously unfamiliar to me. The Taoist tradition apparently includes a Water method" techniques; deep practices for "dissolving" internal blockages (physical or emotional), which eventually can bring a sense of compassion, balance, and wisdom. The actual term for dissolving (or letting go) is "sung shin," which means "to relax into your heart or being."
The Water method is a three-pronged teaching of meditation that is practical rather than cerebral. Along with an introduction to the Taoist Water method, detailed descriptions of beneficial meditation postures and author-guided practice sessions round out this "meditation for modern living." As with any meditation practice, it is a way of living rather than an isolated or quick-fix event, so be prepared to settle in to a powerful and rewarding creative process and to awaken your internal life-force energy.
Summary: Letting Go Rating: 4
TAO of Letting Go: Meditation for Modern Living
Haven't finished listening, but up to now Frantzes has a very good and simple way of informing you on the who, what when, where, why and how of understanding the dissolving method of meditation. Ice to water, water to gas.
